Monkian

Origin: Plun-Darr

Group: Mutants

Strengths: Exceptional agility climbing and swinging amongst trees

Weaknesses: Arguably the most slow-witted of the Mutants, also slightly cowardly

Weapons:Spiked mace, spiked ball and chain, boulder-shooting shield
Accessories:None

One of the original three Mutants to find themselves stranded on Third Earth, Monkian is true to his name - a powerful warrior, Monkian is at his best and most deadly in the treetops, where his agile climbing and swinging ability is able to come to the fore. Because of his more ape-like tendencies, Monkian's treetop skill is matched by a natural aggression, and this selfsame aggression causes Monkian to possess a lower level of intelligence than the other Mutants, which in turn causes them to look down on him. However, Monkian is nonetheless as ambitious and ruthless as his cohorts, and both allies and foes would underestimate him at their peril.

1. Exodus

Monkian is the dim-witted but dangerous leader of the 'Monkian' faction of the Mutants, and works together with Slithe and Jackalman in the Mutant alliance. Monkian joins the fight against the Thundercats fleeing Thundera and leads his Mutant troops onboard the Thunderians ship, but he was quick to retreat when the Thundercats drove back the Mutants using the power of the Sword of Omens. When the Mutants followed the Thundercats to Third Earth, believing them to be sealed within suspension capsules, and now doomed, it was Monkian who realized the Thundercats had broken free crying 'The Thundercats! They're loose!'.

2. The Unholy Alliance

Having fled from the Thundercats, Monkian, along with Slithe and Jackalman, were called into a mysterious black pyramid and met the ancient devil priest Mumm-Ra. Mumm-Ra offered the Mutants an alliance and in return, they would share the power of the Eye of Thundera. The Mutants initially mocked Mumm-Ra's power, but Mumm-Ra sank their ship, depriving the Mutants of their forces on Third Earth. Jackalman, Slithe and Monkian went to face Lion-O but were defeated.

4. The Slaves of Castle Plundarr

Next the Mutants used their new slaves, the brute men, to build their new fortress on Third Earth, Castle Plundarr. While on patrol, Monkian sighted the Thunderkittens, Wily Kat and Wily Kit and used his speed and agility to pursue them as they jumped through the trees of the forest, though they eventually narrowly escaped him. Later that day, Monkian did battle with the Thundercats before being driven back into Castle Plundarr with his fellow mutants after the brute men turned against them.

5. Trouble with Time

Displeased with the food provided within Castle Plundarr, Monkian was sent out to find slaves by Slithe, who wanted the place to have a 'woman's touch' and despite calling Slithe a 'chauvinistic reptile', Monkian set out and attempted to kidnap one of the warrior maidens, but found himself outmatched. After retreating, he also spied the Thundercats talking of how they were running low on Thundrillium. He later attempted to do battle with Lion-O before Willa used sleep gas on him.

53. Monkians Bargain

Some time later, Monkian was summoned by Mumm-Ra to his pyramid. Mumm-Ra offered Monkian a set of magical orbs which would grant him unlimited power, enough to defeat the Thundercats, though he warned Monkian there would be a price for such power. Monkian took no notice of Mumm-Ra's warning and set off to destroy the Thundercats. On his way to the Cats Lair, Monkian was able to use trap Cheetara and Panthro in two of the orbs. Pressing on, Monkian was able to trap Tygra in another orb as the worried Thunderkittens attempted to close the drawbridge to the lair. Monkian next barged into the lair, easily defeating the Thunderkittens and using an orb to transport himself to the chamber holding the Sword of Omens. He was next confronted by Lion-O, who drove him back. Monkian then used another orb to make himself grow to an enormous height, attacking the Cats Lair, he managed to defeat Lion-O and take him and Snarf prisoner. Monkian reported back to Mumm-Ra, handing over the Sword of Omens, but was manipulated by Lion-O, and soon called out Mumm-Ra, demanding the Sword of Omens and the rule of Third Earth for himself. But he soon found out the price he must pay for ultimate power, Mumm-Ra informed him that although he would rule Third Earth, he would never be able to leave the pyramid. Panicking, Monkian attempted to flee, but was trapped on every side by rising stone prisons. Monkian quickly sacrificed his newfound powers for his own freedom, and fled Mumm-Ra's pyramid.

66-70. Thundercats Ho!

Monkian assisted Mumm-Ra on various occasions with his fellow Mutants, including attempting to stop Lion-O from reaching the Black Pyramid and assisting in the pursuit of the Star of Thundera where he saw Mumm-Ra apparently destroyed.

71-75.Mumm Ra Lives

The snivelling Monkian was startled to see Mumm-Ra return shortly afterwards and assisted in the freeing of the Lunataks, albeit reluctantly.

91-95. Thundercubs

He later joined with the Lunataks to attack the tower alongside Jackalman while Slithe and Vultureman were away.

86. Mumm Rana's Belt

While the Lunataks began their campaign to take over Third Earth, Monkian, like the other Mutants, laid low in Castle Plundarr, often playing cards with Slithe, he was briefly recruited by Luna, leader of the Lunataks, to assist her in claiming the belt of Mumm Rana.

109. The Circus Train

Later, Monkian and Jackalman were enticed aboard the circus train by Captain Bragg, who promised a beautiful female Mutant on board. Monkian was trapped aboard the train, and Bragg revealed himself as a bounty hunter sent to capture the Mutants. Slithe and Vultureman attempted to rescue Monkian and punish Bragg, but also ended up as prisoners.

114. Return to Thundera Part Four

Monkian and the other Mutants were later freed by Ma-Mutt under Mumm-Ra's orders, and once more attempted to destroy the Thundercats. Monkian was defeated once more, and was again imprisoned in the circus train after being defeated by the Thundercats and their allies.
